Our facilities serve as clinical and non-clinical training sites for thousands of students every year. We work locally with high school students in career exploration and partner with secondary academic institutions to provide students with learning experiences that are second to none.

K-12 Programs

Elementary Inquiries

Elementary students can engage with research scientists and learn about STEM through Sanford PROMISE programs and the It’s All About Science Festival. Sanford PROMISE also works with elementary school educators through summer workshops for teachers. 


HOPE Camp

Health Occupations & Professions Exploration (HOPE) Camp gives high school students in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota the opportunity to explore health careers. In partnership with North Dakota State University, students stay on NDSU’s campus and learn from university and Sanford Health professionals. Email us to learn more.

Tour the Sanford USD Medical Center

High school students can tour the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to meet with health care professionals in various departments.

In addition to being the largest hospital in South Dakota, the medical center is a teaching hospital for the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. Our departments include emergency air transport, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, transplant services and specialty centers in children’s, heart, cancer, neuroscience, sports medicine and women’s health. With 545 beds, 4,000 employees and a Level II Trauma Emergency Care center, we meet the needs of patients from across the Midwest.

Science Research Experiences

The Sanford Program for the Midwest Initiative in Science Exploration (PROMISE) works to inspire the next generation of scientists by offering middle school students, high school students and teachers a variety of events and programs throughout the school year and summer. These experiences include classroom visits to the PROMISE Community Lab to engage with active research scientists, hands-on lab technique training, shadowing, internships and community lectures.


Sanford MedX - HS 

Sanford MedX – HS is a health care exploration program for high school students. The program includes a behind-the-scenes look at a variety of health care careers. MedX sessions include hands-on activities, presentations and tours. We’ll explore familiar and not-so-familiar areas of health care.

Undergraduate Students: Learn

Sanford Health is proud to partner with accredited secondary educational institutions to provide students with hands-on clinical training opportunities. We partner with these regional institutions: the University of South Dakota, the University of North Dakota<, North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, Augustana University and Concordia College.

We also offer educational programs such as the Medical Laboratory Science educational program, the radiography program and clinical and non-clinical internships.

Undergraduate Programs

Internships

Medical Laboratory Science Educational Program

Learn more about medical laboratory science through the Medical Laboratory Science educational program. This 48-week course combines traditional classroom lectures with hands-on training in a real clinical laboratory.


Paramedic Program

The North Dakota State College of Science and Sanford Health EMS education program is a two-year program for those new to the emergency medical services field. Our first-year students are considered pre-paramedic while they complete the program requirements. An EMT certificate is required to start the program’s second year, which has limited enrollment.


Radiography Program

Kick-start your career in radiologic science through our radiography program.


Respiratory Therapy Program

Prepare for a career in respiratory therapy through the NDSU/Sanford Respiratory Care Program.


Sanford Arts Internship

The Sanford Arts Internship is available to any post-secondary or graduate student in their junior or senior year who is currently enrolled in a visual arts, art education, music, theater, dance, psychology, counseling or sociology program.

Sonography Program

The Sonography Program is affiliated with North Dakota State University. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree in radiologic sciences with tracks in echocardiography or diagnostic medical sonography. Students complete two to three years of college courses, followed by the 21-month sonography program. Upon successful completion of all degree requirements, students receive a certificate of completion from Sanford Fargo Medical Center and a baccalaureate degree from NDSU.


Postgraduate Students: Advance

Sanford Health is committed to the advancement of students interested in health care. As a major teaching site for medical residency and fellowship programs, our physicians train more than 300 doctors every year. In addition, pharmacists, advanced practice providers and therapists can take advantage of continued training to help advance themselves in their chosen professions. For those on the non-clinical professional track, the Sanford Administrative Fellowship allows students with a master’s degree to spend a year learning from top leaders throughout the system to help transition them from the classroom to the boardroom.
