Routine Children’s Health Services

Well Child Visits

One of the best ways to keep your child healthy is by having regular well child visits. These visits make sure infants, children and teens are getting the care they need to stay healthy.

A wellness visit includes:

  • A comprehensive physical exam
  • Growth and development tracking
  • Discussions on nutrition, physical fitness, sleep, behavior and health concerns
  • Early detection of issues before they become serious
  • Discussions about preventive screenings, health care recommendations and your family’s health
  • Vaccinations

A wellness visit also fulfills sports physical requirements for students participating in sports and other physically demanding school activities.

Infants and young children should have a well child visit at these milestones:

  • 3 to 5 days old
  • 2 to 4 weeks
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months (1 year old)
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months (2 years old)
  • 30 months

Children ages 3 years and older should see their provider annually.

Vaccinations

Stay up to date on your child’s immunizations to protect them from life-threatening illnesses. Vaccinations significantly reduce children’s risk of developing dangerous and preventable diseases. Vaccines are a safe and effective way to keep your child and those around them healthy.

Learn more about childhood immunization.

Vaccines work by building up a body’s natural defense system. Some immunizations contain a dead or weakened form of a virus or bacteria. Others, like the COVID-19 vaccine, deliver instructions on how to create a protein that triggers an immune response. The immune system will then learn how to fight off those infections and can resist infection from those diseases in the future.

Sports Physicals

A sports physical exam ensures students can safely play sports and participate in school activities. This exam helps catch health problems before they become serious.

A sports physical includes:

  • A review of medical history, including past illnesses, injuries, surgeries and concussions
  • Height and weight checks
  • An evaluation of heart and respiratory health

Most schools and sports organizations require a sports physical before students can participate.
