Helping Families Understand Genetic Conditions
Erin Royer is a licensed certified genetic counselor, specializing in genetic screening and diagnosis, whole exome sequencing, and pediatric and adult genetic medicine.
She is an expert in helping families with genetic conditions understand what role genetics and genomics are playing in disease. Since many conditions are caused by both genetic and environmental factors, Erin will explore what factors increase the risk for diseases and what testing is helpful to reduce the risk for families to develop certain conditions.
Erin will look at the patient's family history records and spend time educating patients about inheritance, testing, management, prevention, resources and research. She provides support and counseling to help patients and families understand the medical, psychological and familial effects of genetic testing and diseases.
She also serves as a clinical instructor for the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and as faculty for the joint Augustana University/Sanford Genetic Counseling program.
