Sanford Children’s CHILD Services is committed to enhancing the development, health and safety of children in eastern South Dakota. Our services empower families, caregivers and people who directly impact the lives of children. We partner with state and local agencies to provide programs, services and resources.

For answers to your breastfeeding questions, call our breastfeeding support line at (605) 328-7120. Our experts are available on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

New Arrivals Programs

Get answers to your questions about newborn care and feeding. Stop in and visit with registered nurses through the New Arrivals programs. These programs provide education, instruction and support to new parents.

Open House

Monday through Wednesday: 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Thursday: 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Friday: 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Individual Appointment Times

Monday through Friday: 1 to 4 p.m.

Safety Center

Visit the Sanford Children’s Safety Center to learn how to create a safe home environment for your family. Our safety specialists are on-site to answer you and your family’s safety questions.

Our safety education materials and checklists are free for families. We also have child safety products available for purchase.

Safe Home = Safe Family
Sanford Children’s designed the Safe Home = Safe Family services to provide safety education to parents. We also offer a free safety kit to help you ensure your home is a safe place for children. The program is funded by United Way.

Car Seat Resources

Car Seat Education and Inspection
Our certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians provide car seat inspections to make sure they’re safely installed. Please bring your child so our experts can check to make sure their car seat fits properly. Walk-in and drive-through car seat checks are available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SD Car Seat Distribution
The Child Safety Seat Distribution Program focuses on keeping children safe by providing child safety seats at no cost to families that meet income eligibility requirements. We want to ensure that children are in the best car seat for their height and weight until they are at least 4 feet and 9 inches tall.

Specialty Car Seat Rental
Specialty car seat rentals are available upon request.

Car Seat Rental
Conventional car seats, including convertibles, forward-facing combination seats and boosters, are available for rental upon request.

Parenting eSource
Parenting Information anytime – anywhere. Join Parenting eSource and receive email information regarding your kids, you (the parent) and family life.

New Baby in Home
New Baby in Home services give new parents the opportunity to talk about parenting and their baby. Parents choose the topic, the time and how to receive the information. This resource is funded by United Way.

Getting to Know Baby Better
Your baby’s temperament influences how he or she behaves and reacts to people, places and situations. Help your baby learn and grow by understanding how their traits affect their behavior. This resource is funded by United Way.

We offer individual sessions to help you deal with everyday parenting challenges. This resource is available by phone or office visit. This resource is funded by United Way.

Parent Navigator

We’re here to support you on your parenting journey. Parent Navigator is a physician-referred program that connects you with parenting experts for answers to your everyday parenting questions.

We’ll help you understand parenting topics such as:

  • Accomplishing toilet training
  • Balancing life
  • Learning effective discipline techniques
  • Managing stress
  • Recognizing what your child’s behaviors are saying
  • Setting bedtime routines
  • Understanding your child’s learning style
  • Working through temper tantrums

These consultations can take place over the phone or in-person at various clinic locations or in your home.

Child Care Provider Resources

Family Day Care Network
Family Day Care Network is a sponsoring organization that provides educational and technical support to registered child care providers who are interested in participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and are located in southeastern South Dakota.

Early Childhood Enrichment
In partnership with the Department of Social Services Division of Child Care Services, Sanford Children’s CHILD Services works to improve the quality of child care in Region 5 communities through the statewide work of the Early Childhood Enrichment System. Our CHILD Services provides classes and technical assistance to increase caregiver knowledge and skills so they can provide quality care.
