Caring for Sick Newborns
As a neonatal nurse practitioner, Andrea Peterson works with neonatologists and other team members taking care of premature and critically ill newborn babies in the NICU.
She cares for infants with a range of conditions including:
- Congenital anomalies
- Congenital heart disease
- Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy
- Prematurity
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Respiratory failure
- Seizures
- Sepsis
She also specializes in resuscitation and stabilization of infants at birth.
Andrea is also a member of the NICU chronic respiratory care team providing specialized care for infants with chronic lung disease. She is a certified lactation counselor, neonatal resuscitation program instructor and member of the children’s palliative care team.
